What Are Attributes?

Attributes are used to define your product features. They can be applied to any new or existing products, this way it can be used for several products in your store.

Let’s say you have a clothing store that sells tops, pants, socks, and shoes. A common attribute for all of these products would be the Size. Instead of creating custom attribute for the size of each new product you add, you can create product attributes that can be used for various product sizes.

It is best to set-up your attributes first so that you can use them on products that need them. It also saves time and keep things more organized!

How To Add A Product With Attributes & Variations

  1. On the left menu, click on “Products”

  2. Below the “Products” heading, click on “Add New”
  3. Enter the Product Name, Description, etc…
  4. Scroll down to “Product Data” and select “Variable product” from the dropdown.

  5. Click on the “Attributes” tab. If you have already created global attributes (ones that can be applied to new or existing products), choose the attribute from the dropdown, eg: Colour, Size, etc…

  6. If are creating new attributes (ones that can be applied to only this product), click on “Add new”.
  7. In the box that opens, add the name of the Attribute and the Values. Each value must be separated with a “|”. When done, click “Save attributes”.

  8. Next, click on Variations, then on “Add manually”.
  9. The first option presented will include all the variations you entered. If the price is the same for all variations, click on “Edit”, at the right, add the price.

  10. If the price is different for each variation, then click on “Add manually” and choose the variation you need from the dropdown. Then click on “Edit” at the right of each variation and add the price.

  11. Click on the other menu tabs, on the left, and fill in the rest of the data for your product, if needed.
  12. On the right column you will see the option to Publish, add Product Image, add Product Gallery, select Product Categories and add Product Tags.
  13. In the “Product Image” section, add the main image for the product.

  14. In the “Product Gallery” section, here you can add other images related to the product. These images will display below the main image.

  15. Under “Product Categories”, choose the Category you want the item to be displayed in. You can have your product displayed in as many categories as you like.

  16. In the “Product Tags” section, you can add tags related to the product.

  17. When you are done entering your information, scroll back up to where it says “Publish”, here you can choose to “Publish/Update”, “Save Draft” or “Preview”.

  18. Go to the page on the front end and review your entry.
